REDSTAR FIGHTERS

Simon “the power” Pitsch, Founder and Co-Director

I have over 20 years of experience in kickboxing, boxing and bodybuilding and fought my way to the WKA Pro Australian Kickboxing Title and the ISKA World K1 Title.

Over the past seven years I’ve successfully trained, and currently train junior and senior female fighters who have achieved multiple World, Australian, State and Oceania K1 and Boxing Titles under my coaching. I currently train the Super Heavyweight Commonwealth K1 Kickboxing Champion and have trained other male fighters that have won World, Australian & State titles.

Helping members earn the glory of a title is just one part of what I do. My coaching has also helped people make changes in their personal lives, helping them become more disciplined, more focused and has set them on a clear path in life. I love that I can be a part of clients’ success and am grateful that I can take them on this journey.

Natasha Harvey, Gym Manager at Redstar Training Centre

With 13 years of business management, I was looking for a new challenge and found RedStar Training Centre. I took on the role of Gym Manager seven years ago and really love working here! We’re a family that supports our members and each other.

I manage the day to day operations of the gym to make sure that everything runs smoothly. I am passionate about customer service and strive to make everyone feel welcome, comfortable and valued. We offer a high level of detail when it comes to helping our members achieve their goals, I believe this is what sets us apart from other gyms. Seeing our members rewarded for the hard work they put in is one of the most rewarding aspects of my job.

Andrew Greenfield, Boxing Coach and Personal Trainer

Growing up in a rough neighbourhood I decided to take self-defence classes to feel safe and confident in defending myself. I had my first boxing fight in 1997 and won the state title that same year. I now train people in boxing and have been doing it for over 24 years.

Throughout my boxing career, I’ve met many great people and formed some amazing friendships. Boxing taught me that hard work, discipline, patience and respect are key to achieving my goals. As a coach and personal trainer, my passion is helping other people set and achieve their goals in fitness and boxing no matter what age or skill level they’re at.

Mike Gray, Jiu Jitsu Coach

Coach Mike has trained JuJitsu with his father Eric Marshall (7th degree blackbelt) since childhood- whom is a founder of BKR Jujitsu and was a pioneer in Jiujitsu in England having trained since the 1960s decades before Jiujitsu was proven and known around the world as it is today. My father taught worldwide and was captain of the British team and used his skills live on the doors of notorious nightclubs of 1970s Liverpool and Manchester. Mike earned his 2nd degree black belt under his fathers lineage over many years of hard training.

In 2004 Mike started training with “Next generation MMA Liverpool” Earning his nogi Brazilian Jiu JItsu Blue and purple belt from Paul Rimmer one of the most successful coaches in UK BJJ and MMA having many international level champions including UFC veterans. Mike then trained out of Aspire MMA academy a then new and groundbreaking gym with international level fighters and competitors where he also coached BJJ and earned his BJJ brown belt from renowned and highly respected coaches and competitors Phil Turner and Marc Morrell representing Combat base UK BJJ.

Mike now proudly coaches a hybrid JiuJitsu system that includes his fathers self defence and throwing techniques with modern BJJ grappling. Mike is highly experienced and worked for many years with the finest coaches, fighters and competitors of his country and passionate about sharing his knowledge at Redstar Training Centre.

Redstar Past and present Fighters

Tina Sougleris - The Silent Assassin

I’ve had the pleasure of training with Simon for seven years and have represented RedStar as a fighter for over five years. I originally joined RedStar for fitness but fell in love with kickboxing. It was the only thing I could do every day without getting bored! I am always excited and motivated to train. A feeling that I’ve never had with anything else before.

When I’m not pushing my mind and body to the limits in training I teach the Women’s Only Kickboxing class. I love being part of the RedStar family and watching my trainer and team succeed.

Tina has fought interstate and overseas and has participated in over 30 fights. I hold the following titles:

  • IKBF SA Champ
  • WKA Aus Champ
  • ISKA World Champ
  • World K1 Champ 56kg & 60kg
  • WAKO K1 Syd Champ
  • IKBF K1 Aus Champ
  • VABL Aus Champ
  • 2-0 in boxing and hope to continue with both kickboxing and boxing.
Brando Pericic - The Balkan Bear

RedStar has helped me gain confidence, mental toughness and life skills that I can apply outside of the gym in everyday life. Fighting has given me a purpose. I look forward to every training session because I know I’m one step closer to my next goal, my next achievement.

I started kickboxing about three years ago and have been fighting for the past two. I’ve participated in nine fights, in three different countries and various states. I love the kickboxing life and am so grateful for the trainers and supportive people around me!

Jye Breed - The Indigenous Cowboy

I started kickboxing training to improve my Motocross performance. I fell in love with the sport and RedStar Training Centre and decided to move away from Motocross to focus on kickboxing. I’ve never looked back!

I describe my style of fighting as ‘technical’ or a ‘calculated brawler’. My aim is to come out hard and ferocious with speed, power and stellar technique. My inspiration comes from Rico Verhoven, Rob Whittaker, Alex Pereira, and the Diaz Brothers.

One day I hope to become a professional fighter and believe that I have the tools and

the right people around me to make it happen. Once I’m done fighting, I’d also love to become a coach at RedStar!

Sarah Milner

Like many others, I originally started kickboxing for fitness however, after a couple of years, it became much more than that. I’ve become addicted to the mental and physical challenge, putting my mind and body to the test every time I train or step into the ring.

I had my first fight in 2017 and since then have had eight fights, including the IKBF East Coast Title which I won.

I don’t know what the future holds for me in this sport, but my approach is to keep it simple and take each fight as it comes. I’ve never liked the pressure of setting big goals. My goal is to win the next fight in front of me. I love my team here at RedStar and I’m excited to keep training, learning and to see where it takes me.

Matthew Kernick

I grew up watching martial arts flicks with my parents and always had a burning desire to train and fight like the guys I saw in the movies.

Over the years I’ve trained and practised in several martial art gyms but never found one that totally hooked me. After a long time away from the gym I decided to get back into shape and found RedStar.

I started training and soon realised that I was missing a huge part of me; the part of me that loved to train and wanted to learn how to fight! Since then I’ve had four fights, one kickboxing fight and three boxing fights.

The RedStar team is amazing and everybody is constantly working together towards something great!  Personally, my goal is to keep learning from the great coaches and fighters at RedStar but most importantly to express myself the best way I can – as a Martial Artist through combat!

Jackson Gibbs

I joined RedStar to improve my footy performance. My casual strength and fitness sessions eventually turned into full-time training to become a fighter.

As a person who’d always lacked self-confidence, finding RedStar who taught me how to build my self-confidence in and out of the ring has changed my life.

My goal is to be recognised as a highly-skilled Australian Dutch stylist kickboxer and gain some championship belts. My inspirations in the sport – Nieky Holzken, Mohammed Jaraya, Alex Pereria and RedStar Owner, Simon Pitsch.

Mia Perrotta

I was introduced to RedStar by my Dad, who trained at RedStar with Simon. Watching my Dad gave me the hunger to fight, so I signed up for the kids kickboxing class.

I completed all my gradings and received all my singlets in a very short amount of time. Around age 12 I started doing the adult classes and competed in a few small inter-club fights. I was hooked!

I’m now 14 and have been fighting for over two years. I’ve accomplished many amazing things during my time at RedStar and have made many life-long memories here. With lots of hard work and commitment, a great coach and supportive parents and teammates, I have a fight record of nine fights seven wins and two losses.

I’ve won three titles including K1 State Title, Mod Thai State Title and Oceania Title. I’ve travelled to New Zealand in 2019 where I won my Oceania Title and also fought in Melbourne. I’ve gained sponsors including Xpeed who support me to achieve my dreams. The future looks bright. A dream of mine is to fight in One Championship.

Lena-Pearl Bridgland

I’ve been a member at RedStar Centre for nearly two years and have been fighting for almost a year. I’ve had two fights (both interstate) and it’s been an amazing experience. It’s been the hardest but most rewarding sport I’ve done.

As a single parent and working full time I could come up with many excuses not to train but RedStar has inspired me to reach my full potential both mentally and physically every day!

Fight training has given me the opportunity to commit to something and the only person I’m challenging is myself. I’m working towards getting in the ring again and this time in front of my children so they can see all the time and sacrifice I make doing what I enjoy.

Matt Denton

After years of veering off the tracks and derailing more than once, I was heading down the same path of destruction. I wanted (and needed) to put myself out of my comfort zone and needed a massive reality check. RedStar found me.

What started as a hobby, grew into an interest and has now turned into a lifestyle that I love. I have grown as a person, from the experiences and friends I’ve gained at RedStar. Being a student and learning to fight is just a bonus!

Wil Bleasdale

I have been training for four years. I started with boxing then moved to BJJ and then kickboxing. In 2018 I went to the Muay Thai nationals where I came home with a silver medal.

My personal goal is to become a champion in my sport. A goal that I am confident is possible to achieve with the support and training at RedStar. The team here has helped me grow so much, not just as a fighter, but as a person.  The space and people at RedStar are so welcoming and you’ll just feel like you’ve found a new family!

Darcy Bleasdale

I started training when I was 16 years old. I started with boxing, moved to Ju-Jitsu and now I mostly do kickboxing. I placed second in the Australian Muay Thai Nationals and won the fighter of the event on the inaugural Combat Sport Promotions.

My goal is to perform and achieve physical and mental perfection so I can become a professional fighter.

Celia Femia

I started youth classes at RedStar Training Centre when I was 10 years old. I progressed into the higher singlets and train to fight. I’ve done three fights to date and my goal is to continue fighting to earn my record and belts.

Marty Shead

Kickboxing is intrinsic to a healthy mind, body and soul and a great way to shred unwanted kilograms. I joined RedStar early to lose weight and overcome social phobia issues. After eight months of training Dutch style Kickboxing with a renowned world champion coach, Simo Pitsch, I successfully lost 24 kgs and my social phobias started to disappear.

I am inspired by the RedStar team as well as Rob Kamon, Badr Hari, Ernesto Hoost, Paul Slowinski and Jerome Le- Banner.

Diesel Pitsch

I started training because my dad Simon is the owner and founder of Redstar. I started training at Redstar when i was 6 years old. I have been training in the youth program and have now achieved all the singlets. I had 1 fight which i won and i am now feeling ready and confident to keep competing in the sport. My goal is to become the greatest UFC fighter there is and to achieve that I have to be training 6 nights a week and do other things outside the gym. At first i did kickboxing for self defense but now i do it because i love the sport and you get to meet so many good people at training as well as showing what you are made of to the world.
